It is with great pleasure that we announce the PiPplware 5.0 RC2!
The distro Pipplware is getting better, faster and with greater and better support for additional hardware. In this new version the news are many, including all features present in previous versions.
We remember that version 5.0 of Pipplware is still in development, although it was already quite stable
The main novelty of this new version is the change of the base system for Raspbian Jessie, which is the port of Debian to the Raspberry 8 Jessie.
This means that all included software has been updated, as well as the software available for installation in the repositories. It also means that will support and security updates as of May 2020 and the stabilityrecognized the Debian operating system.
Another major new feature is the artwork and renovated design where we bet now a lighter theme. TheXFCE has been updated to version 4.10 and is now more stylish with a more robust menu and built-in search. Both the menu and the desktop in general are more easily customizable and now has more plugins to add to your taskbar.
More plugins, themes, icons, and software are easy to install as usual through the Synaptic package manager. The Pipplware desktop looks like now more than ever a work of a modern computerenvironment.
The theme of both the ES as the XFCE are likely to be slightly changed before the stable version 5.0 of Pipplware. We hope you like, and give your opinion.
The RetroPie has also been updated to version 3.1, including also a few more extra updates as of 10/26/2025.
Regarding the RetroPie 3.0 PiPplware 4.2, was added to the game Super Mario Wars to Ports and provided the OpenTyrian and SuperTux for installation in Settings -> RetroPie Configuration -> Experimental.
They have also been added emulators arcades lr-mame2003 and lf-fba-next , the latter with support for over 3500 games arcades.
Support for PS3 commands has also been improved as well as the installation and pairing commands and Bluetooth devices in general.
The Kodi has also been updated to version Isengard 15.2 RC2 like all PVR addons.
They were also made some small optimizations in Kodi, for a better experience "out-of-the-box".
The Pipplware 5.0 RC2 brings now also installed the following additional software:
- Chromium Browser 45, with Flash Player included. Only compatible with the Raspberry Pi 2.
- Libreoffice, the best free office suite available today.
- Claws Mail, an email client for simple usability and configuration, fast and with a lot of functionality.
- BlueJ and Greenfoot two IDEs for Java programming.
Despite the Pipplware 5.0 RC2 bring more software features and emulators, we can optimize the image to occupy little more space.
Grades:
- Due to the change of Raspbian Wheezy for Jessie as a base, and consequent profound changes in the system that are not visible to many users, there will be updates from previous versions to version 5.0.It would be extremely difficult to ensure an update process without causing problems.
- However, after the release of version Pipplware 5.0 stable, there will be updates to future versions up,as did previous versions of Pipplware.
