Preliminary analysis of Huawei Q9: first impressions

Huawei P9 - Design and finishing
The P9 features a sleek metal body nobody quite reminiscent of its predecessor, the P8. The latter was a terminal that highlighted a lot during 2015 for its elegance, and special attention was put on the finishing. The desire of the Chinese brand is reaffirmed by offering users a premium smartphone with good looks and technical specifications.

The body has rounded corners, and slight curvature shows the edges that bind to opaque frame around the device.

Like its predecessor has no start button on the front. This leaves a very wide lower frame only used for the name of the brand.

On the back are the main novelties of Q9: dual camera and fingerprint reader.  Two camera lenses have a circular design surrounded by a Delano aluminum frame that just stands out. Along with the two lenses, we die another one under the LED flash and autofocus laser.

The fingerprint reader has a square design as the Honor 7. The rear panel, as in the P8, is I interrupted by a band at the top and a thin line at the bottom, where we also find the logo brand.

As for the physical keys, the P9 houses, along the right edge, volume control, followed by the power button (rough texture to be easily localizable). On the left are the SIM slot and microSD card. At the bottom, we find the USB port Type C and headphone minijack.

With its 145 x 70.9 x 6.95 mm and 114g, the P9 is light and easy to handle, and physical buttons are easily accessible with one hand without any problems.

With its 145 x 70.9 x 6.95 mm and 114 grams, the P9 is light and easy to handle, and physical buttons are easily accessible with one hand without any problems.

During the presentation of the device the CEO of Huawei, Richard Yu, he has repeatedly stressed the commitment of wanting to make a smartphone well finished, discussed in detail (examples of this are the edges thin slightly curved and engraved Leica logo on the body), able to stand out not only in design but also in the photographic experience. In hand, the P9 is ergonomic, lightweight and robust at the same time.

Huawei P9 - Screen
P9 has  5.2-inch screen with full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (423 ppi), covered with glass 2.5D. The panel is rounded at the edges and has good viewing angles. In the display settings, you can change the brightness, color, and temperature.

During our brief test, the screen had high gloss and responded quickly to navigate through menus. During the event, the brand has ensured that the screen P9 offers some colors 96% more saturated and higher brightness. The colors are very vivid, but we will have to spend more time with it to see how it copes with direct sunlight.

Huawei P9 - Special Functions
Huawei has a P9 fingerprint sensor on the back, as in Honor Mate 7 and biometric sensor S. This smartphone provides an extra level of security for locking the terminal.

Another unique feature of this P9 are the support for using two SIM cards. Furthermore, it is the first device to incorporate a virtual triple antenna, which should substantially improve the quality of the connection.

Huawei P9 - Software
P9 runs from the first moment with a version of  Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom, as he usually does Huawei, with its layer of customization EMUI 4.1. Like other manufacturers terminals compatriots, this layer of customization no application drawer being accessible all with a simple swipe your finger on the screen.

Among preinstalled applications with which Huawei load this P9, we have Google Play, other Google services, Hicare, Health and Huawei Wear. During the first contact, the system has worked very fluidly, showing a good compatibility between software and hardware. The user interface has, as usual, a clean and simple design, you can customize extensively.

Huawei P9 - Performance
The standard version of P9 has 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. On the other hand, the Plus version has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory. Both models have a Kirin 955 processor with a Mali-T880 GPU, which promises high performance well above that offered its predecessor P8.

Thanks to a new file system optimization, which promises to reduce fragmentation, the P9 can offer a 20% performance increase.

At the moment, we can not speak of objective numbers until further analysis. P9 is not going to place first in the ranking, because the stakes are very high, but promises a great performance without sacrificing user experience.

Huawei P9 - House
The camera P9 is certainly the element that, in recent months, more has to speak. It has two objectives 12 MP with pixel dual technology and aperture of f / 2.2. Huawei has chosen Leica as his assistant for the realization the lens of the main chamber, detail showing the will of fabricated to offer higher picture quality to users. The P9 features an RGB sensor and one monochrome combined should provide greater brightness, better detail, and in overall, a better quality photos in low light.

Each of the sensors has six individual layers and provide pixel 28 larger than the P8, resulting in an increased amount of captured light and, therefore, in the best images.% Also provides a hybrid autofocus and new and faster IPS.

It also has new and interesting features such as the snapshot and preview the movie mode, white black, and standard. One of the most interesting aspects is also the integration of Leica interface, in addition to introducing a manual mode for photography enthusiasts, you can adjust the ISO, exposure, focus and choose RAW format.

On the front, Huawei has set a target of 8 MP with an aperture of f / 2.4, with many  beauty options. The quality of pictures can judge in greater detail when we receive the test unit in writing.

Huawei P9 - Battery
To keep alive, the P9 find a none - removable battery of 3000 mAh, as opposed to P8, which offers 2680 mAh. It should be noted, however, that if last year most devices brought a capacity below 3000 mAh (see the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 ), the range of this year has decided to opt for a few more milliamps (both the Samsung Galaxy S7 as the Xiaomi Mi 5 have a battery of 3000 mAh).

According to the statement by the manufacturer during the launch event, the battery can guarantee 12 hours of HD video, 8 hours of browsing, 20 hours of talk time and 56 hours of music playback. We find out if these numbers are well maintained for the final analysis.

We should also mention that the P9 supports fast charging, which promises 5 hours of calls after 10 minutes of charging.
