A job offer posted today suggests that Amazon will soon offer video content for virtual reality.
This is probably the new trend of large companies. After HTC, Oculus, Sony, Samsung, Google , Apple, and probably soon, is that Amazon eyeing to virtual reality. Based on an ad spotted by UploadVR, the giant e-commerce would be looking for a manager "software development" that would be in charge of a team that specializes in virtual reality to develop content. A job that leaves little doubt about the intentions of Amazon.
"The future will not be limited to passive 2D" reads the description. " The virtual reality team will explore and create a platform and interface for immersive storytelling. This will include ingestion and playback platform for virtual reality experiences " .
Amazon wants to imitate Netflix and Hulu
Featuring a video streaming service Amazon could use this virtual reality helmet to stand out from competitors such as Netflix , or Hulu. Netflix has already developed its own virtual reality application for Samsung Gear VR and Hulu is working on its own application.
At the Mobile World Congress, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO announced that nearly one million hours of virtual reality was viewed through the virtual reality helmets. A figure which would obviously benefit Amazon well. For now, Amazon has engaged in any comment.
