When the new Apple TV was released last fall, the main complaint was that users were unable to enter text easily. What was more remarkable was to enter usernames and passwords on the keyboard on the screen and the trackpad of Remote Siri was a tedious and complicated process.
With the release of TVOS 9.2 , Apple has greatly improved this experience enabled via Siri dictation. That means you can now use your voice to spell your username and password, or to find any term you want.
After updating your Apple TV to version 9.2 TVOS, the first time you get to the search engine or you go to enter your data, you'll notice that there is now a new icon of a microphone in the box. Press and hold the microphone button and approves the message appears asking if you want to activate the dictation.Alternatively, if you've set up your Apple TV recently as a new device during the boot process will ask you if you want to activate Siri and dictation option.
When you use the dictation in the search field, you can talk normally. For example, you can search YouTube "Stampylonghead" without having to spell the term (for the curious, Stampy creates videos Minecraft fabulous that my kids love them).
However, the process to enter your username and password is different. Instead of saying your email address or your password, the spell. If we use the address "test@cnethow-to.com" as an example, you'd have to say each letter individually, "you" "and" "that" "you".
In the case of capital letters, you can say "I capitalized" or "high you" and Siri will tell correctly. In my test I could spell correctly "PassW0! Rd" without any complications, despite having a combination of letters, numbers and punctuation marks. If Siri understood you wrong, you can say "delete" or "go back" to delete the last letter you have dictated.
This addition, which seems very simple, greatly improves the overall experience of Apple TV.
